CINE VELA with Gajendra Singh
CINE VELA is our Sunday podcast with Lallantop Cinema Editor Gajendra Singh Bhati where he discusses world cinema classics and filmmaking. In this first episode of Cine Vela he talks about director Vittorio De Sica's cult classic Bicycle Thieves (1948), the Italian neorealist drama which influenced many iconic directors such as Satyajit Ray, Bimal Roy, Raj Kapoor, Anurag Kashyap, Shyam Benegal and many more. This post-World War 2 drama was also a life changing film for many filmmakers across the world. In 1952, Bicycle Thieves was deemed the greatest film of all time by Sight & Sound magazine. It is the story of a poor father (Antonio Ricci played by Lamberto Maggiorani) who's looking for his stolen bicycle in Rome with his little son (Bruno played by Enzo Staiola).
